Xiaomi has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 14, which is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, the latest and most powerful mobile processor from Qualcomm. It offers significant performance and efficiency improvements over the previous generation, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which powers the Xiaomi 13.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is built on a 4nm process and features eight cores: one prime core at 3.3GHz, three performance cores at 3.15GHz, two performance cores at 2.96GHz, and two efficiency cores at 2.27GHz. It also has a new Adreno 750 GPU that is up to 30% faster than the previous generation.

The new CPU is also more efficient than the previous generation. It uses a new Kryo power-saving architecture that can reduce power consumption by up to 34%. This means that the Xiaomi 14 will be able to last longer on a single charge, even when running demanding tasks.

📸 Camera

Another major upgrade in the Xiaomi 14 is the new triple-camera system, which has 50MP main, telephoto, and ultrawide sensors. This is a significant upgrade over the previous model`s camera system, which had 50/10/12MP sensors appropriately. In addition, the Xiaomi 14`s selfie camera now has 4K video recording, which is a first for a Xiaomi smartphone.

This means that the Xiaomi 14`s cameras should be able to capture more light and produce sharper, more detailed images and videos, especially in low-light conditions, which makes the this phone a great option for vloggers and content creators who want to produce high-quality videos.

To accommodate 8K and 4K HDR videos, the Xiaomi 14 offers up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. This is a significant upgrade over the Xiaomi 13, which offered up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

In the Xiaomi 14 lineup, the vendor bumped the minimal storage size to 256GB, dropping the smallest and slowest 128GB model that used UFS 3.1 storage, resulting in all Xiaomi 14 models using faster UFS 4.0 storage.

📱 Display

Talking about display size, Xiaomi kept the same 6.36-inch size, but increased resolution to 1200 x 2670 pixels, up from 1080 x 2400 pixels in the previous model. This means that the Xiaomi 14 display will be sharper and more vibrant, with more pixels per inch (PPI).

The Xiaomi 14 display has a 3000-nit peak brightness, compared to the 1900-nit used in the Xiaomi 13. Both models displays support a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+.

In addition, the Xiaomi 14 display uses an LTPO OLED display, which offers variable refresh rates, improved power efficiency, and better image quality than the AMOLED display used in the Xiaomi 13.

🔋 Battery

The Xiaomi 14 has a slightly larger battery capacity (4610mAh vs 4500mAh) and supports faster wired charging (90W vs 67W) than the Xiaomi 13, which means it can be fully charged in 31 minutes, compared to 38 minutes for the previous model. Both models support wireless charging at up to 50W and reverse wireless charging at up to 10W.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro uses the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip as the base Xiaomi 14 model compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which was used in the previous year`s Xiaomi 13 Pro model and their latest flagship Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is significantly faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the difference in performance is not likely to be noticeable in real-world use. Both processors are capable of handling even the most demanding tasks with ease.

📸 Camera

The main innovation and advantage of the Xiaomi 14 Pro over the Xiaomi 14 is its variable aperture f/1.4-f/4.0 main camera. This is the first time that a Xiaomi phone has featured a variable aperture lens, and it gives the Xiaomi 14 Pro a significant advantage in terms of low-light photography.

When compared to the Xiaomi 13 Pro, the Xiaomi 14 Pro has a similar camera setup, with the main difference being the wider aperture (f/1.4 vs f/1.9) and slightly larger sensor (1/1.31" vs 1.0") on the wide camera of the Xiaomi 14 Pro.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has an additional periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, giving it a longer reach than the Xiaomi 14 Pro. It also has a wider aperture (f/1.8 vs f/2.2) on the ultrawide camera.

With a wider aperture of f/1.4, the Xiaomi 14 Pro can capture more light in low-light conditions, resulting in brighter and more detailed images. The narrower aperture of f/4.0 is ideal for shooting in bright conditions, as it helps to reduce lens flare and improve image sharpness.

In real-world scenarios, the variable aperture may offer more versatility when shooting, but the resulting quality remains to be seen, as it will depend on both hardware and software factors.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro not only excels in camera capabilities but also in memory and storage options. It now comes with a minimum of 12GB of RAM, which is a significant upgrade from the 8GB in the standard Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 13 Pro models.

Additionally, the storage options have been generously expanded, matching the 1TB offered in the later Xiaomi 13 Ultra and doubling the previous limit of 512GB in the Xiaomi 13 Pro. This means that both the base Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro models are equipped with ample memory and storage, catering to users who demand high performance and extensive space for their apps, files, and media.

📱 Display

The Xiaomi 14 Pro continues to utilize the same 6.73-inch 1440 x 3200 LTPO AMOLED display as found in the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra models. In contrast, the Xiaomi 14 offers a slightly smaller 6.36-inch 1200 x 2670 screen, which is well-suited for comfortable single-handed usage, while the larger display of the Xiaomi 14 Pro is ideal for immersive activities like watching movies, playing games, and browsing the internet.

When it comes to battery performance, the Xiaomi 14 Pro boasts a sizable 4880 mAh battery, while the Xiaomi 13 Ultra leads the pack with a slightly larger 5000 mAh battery. In comparison, the base model, Xiaomi 14, features a 4610 mAh battery, and the previous-year model, Xiaomi 13 Pro, is equipped with a Li-Po 4820 mAh battery.

In terms of charging capabilities, the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Pro share similar fast charging speeds, with both supporting 120W wired charging that can fill the battery to 100% in approximately 18 to 19 minutes, as advertised. The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is no slouch either, offering 90W wired charging that reaches a full charge in about 35 minutes, while the base Xiaomi 14 provides 90W wired charging, promising a full charge in approximately 31 minutes.

For wireless charging, the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra are on par with their 50W wireless charging, achieving a full charge in around 40 to 49 minutes, as advertised. The Xiaomi 14 also supports 50W wireless charging, taking about 46 minutes to reach full battery capacity.

All models across the Xiaomi lineup are equipped with 10W reverse wireless charging capabilities, providing additional convenience for charging other devices on the go.
